After four and a half years, Gerard Moerland is back at CSE. As Operations Manager and a member of the management team, he is now responsible for fleet management, planning, and sorting. The step gives him a familiar feeling. “It feels like coming home, although much has changed,” says Gerard.
His return started with a chance encounter with Martijn Vos on a terrace. “One thing led to another,” Gerard explains. “We had a long conversation afterwards, and while on vacation I thought: why not? I mainly want to do what I enjoy. I often tell my children that this is what really matters, so I should live by that myself. I haven’t regretted it for a second!”
A step forward
Gerard previously worked at CSE for more than nine years as Operations Manager. “I watched the company grow from four people in a small shed into a serious player,” he recalls. “I also helped with the expansion in Poland. It’s great to see that many familiar colleagues are still here and that the atmosphere remains the same. At the same time, a lot has changed: CSE has taken a step forward on every front. We’ve transitioned from diesel to BIO-LNG and electric driving, the warehouse in Weert has opened, sorting has been added, and our fleet has grown.”
“I hope the coming years will be just as dynamic as my first nine.”
A slightly different role
CSE has evolved, and Gerard’s role is also a little different. There’s more to it now, he says. “As an operations guy, I tend to jump in myself, but now I have to avoid doing that. My main task is to ensure that people do the right things. I analyze from the sidelines and provide direction. From the management team, I also contribute to setting the course for CSE, in a more formal role than before. I really enjoy that.”
Plenty of ideas and ambition
If anything, Gerard isn’t short on ideas and ambition. In this second chapter at CSE, he wants to actively contribute to the next steps. “There’s always a lot going on here, and that makes it exciting. I hope the coming years will be just as dynamic as my first nine. We’re far from finished!”
