Cargo Service Europe Stimulate Sustainability with the Purchase of Fourteen New Volvo FH Aero Electric Trucks

Cargo Service Europe (CSE), a leading player in the transport sector, has recently signed an order for no less than fourteen new Volvo FH Aero Electric trucks. This purchase underscores CSE’s commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation, marking a significant step forward in their long-term sustainability strategy.

The order, placed with BAS Truck Center, consists of fourteen FH Aero Electric models. “We chose the Volvo FH Aero Electric because of the strong business case and our positive experiences with our current four Volvo FH Electrics, which are used for 24-hour services and cover about 12,500 kilometers per month,” explains Anita Leeijen, CFO at CSE. “These new trucks not only improve the working environment for our employees but also increase the range thanks to better aerodynamics. With BAS Truck Center as a service partner, we know exactly what to expect from each other.”

The Volvo FH Aero Electric trucks are equipped with advanced features such as mirror cameras with Blind Spot detection, a new type of LED high beam, and air-suspended axles all around. Additionally, they are equipped with Volvo Dynamic Steering and Alcoa Durabright rims, contributing to both safety and driving comfort.

Focus on a Sustainable Future
CSE is fully focused on the transport and storage of empty cans and is heavily investing in sustainability. “We believe in a fully electrified fleet. With the experience we have gained, we are ready to expand further, including an extensive charging infrastructure and adapted business processes.”

Testing and Pushing Boundaries
The fourteen Volvo FH Aero vehicles will be used for international transport, with Germany as the first destination. Anita shares, “We have tested the range of our current electric trucks on all the different routes we drive, which opens up new possibilities for our activities across the border,” shares Martijn. “We see the challenges around range and charging infrastructure as opportunities to grow and innovate within the sector.”

Operational Efficiency to the Next Level
The switch to electric trucks brings significant changes to how CSE operates. “Our previous experiences with electric vehicles can now be applied more broadly and improved, benefiting the efficiency of our transports. For example, we are focusing on 24-hour services and LZV transport,” says Martijn Vos, Owner of CSE Cargo Service Europe. He adds that CSE continues to innovate with sustainable solutions, including the use of BIO-LNG trucks.

Jan Schouten, Manager of Energy Transition at Volvo Trucks Netherlands, adds: “Sustainability in road transport is challenging. But waiting is not an option. The transition requires pioneers who dare to take on the challenges. CSE did this a few years ago by switching the entire fleet to Bio-LNG. They are now taking the next step by scaling up with electric trucks in long-distance transport in LZV configuration.”

With this pioneering purchase, CSE positions itself as a leader in the transition to sustainable transport.
